Plant Focus
In 2012, at the 7th International Oak Society Conference in Bordeaux (France) we introduced field trips during the Conference. In 2015, in Lisle (United States), workshops made their appearance. This Conference saw yet another innovation integrate our triennial event: lightning talks.
The first recorded practice of lightning talks dates from 1997, though this appellation only appears in the year 2000, coined by Mark Jason Dominus.
The ingredients? An interesting subject, five minutes, fifteen slides that advance automatically every twenty seconds, a dynamic moderator – in this case, Taylor Lewis of the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden – and a good pinch or two of adrenaline.
