IOS Webinar #13: Oak Conservation in the California Islands Archipelago, and Oaks of the Edwards Plateau
The IOS is pleased to announce our next virtual event, again co-hosted with the Global Conservation Consortium for Oak (GCCO), which will take place over Zoom at 10 am US Central Time on August 26, 2026.
In this webinar, we will first hear from John Knapp, Senior Conservation Scientist, for the Catalina Island Conservancy. He will present on collaborative research across the California Islands Archipelago, spanning the US–Mexico border, to advance understanding of oak diversity. His talk, under the title "It takes not only a village to conserve oaks, but an archipelago", will examine oaks as ecological communities, their distribution and biogeography, patterns of hybridization, historical and contemporary impacts, emerging threats, and the suite of conservation initiatives currently underway.
