Abstract
This presentation explores how botanical illustration can be a way to connect with nature, raise ecological awareness, and bring the public closer to the diversity of oak trees. My interest in the subject arose from an experience that awakened me to the presence of an impersonal vastness in natural landscapes. This perception became clearer through direct contemplation of the environment, which led me to spend long periods in forests and focus my artistic practice on drawing plants and trees. I trained as a botanical illustrator working with two dendrologists. This collaboration allowed me to acquire technical and scientific knowledge about tree species, while developing a more precise and detailed drawing technique. My method is based on field observation, morphological study, and artistic representation with watercolor and graphite. I have focused my work on oak trees due to their enormous diversity, ecological importance, and presence in wild landscapes. The forests they form provide food and habitat for a wide variety of organisms, and invite the reflection and silence that fosters a deep connection with nature. My work seeks to showcase the subtle beauty of these trees and foster a more attentive perception of their role in ecosystems. This approach demonstrates how art can serve to build bridges between aesthetic contemplation, scientific knowledge, and a commitment to conservation.
