Introduction

The International Oak Society made good on its name for this trip, as our group had assembled from far and wide: Uruguay, France, North Carolina, New Mexico, and the local US West Coast. We came together for a tour of West Coast oaks, led by IOS member Sean Hogan. We all had our own reasons for coming, but for me it boils down to love, love for the trees, love for their ecosystems, love for the subtle, uncommunicable feeling of being in their presence.

Our ambitious eight-day adventure traversed the full expanse of oak distribution in northern, western, and southern Oregon down into northwest California as far south as Weaverville and Redding.
