Introduction

Changes in names for well-known garden plants are often disconcerting. When Cristofolini et al. (2017) proposed that the name Q. ×hispanica should no longer be used for the Lucombe oaks, it caused confusion in horticulture as not everybody had adopted the new name, Q. ×crenata, and so two names are in use for the same hybrid. We show here that this change was unnecessary, and that the familiar name Q. ×hispanica, in use for many years, is the correct name for these hybrids.
