Event Date:
Wednesday, 20 November 2024

The IOS is pleased to announce our next virtual event, again co-hosted with the Global Conservation Consortium for Oak (GCCO), which will take place over Zoom at 10 am US Central Time on November 20, 2024

In this webinar we will first hear from Tarin Toledo and Norma Corona about the project “Your Neighbors the Oaks”, an educational project funded by an IOS Oak Conservation and Research Grant and aimed at elementary school teachers in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. The objectives of this initiative were to promote the conservation of oak trees through learning about their ecology and how to propagate them, and to use oaks in the school environment as a teaching and learning resource. The project was developed as part of the Fairchild Challenge of the Francisco Javier Clavijero Botanical Garden at the Instituto de Ecología A.C. (INECOL).

During the second section of the webinar, Barry Clarke, Botanist and Plant Records Officer at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, UK, will present an overview of their oak collection, under the title “The Diversity of Evergreen Oaks at the Hillier Gardens”. Following the presentations there will be Q&A.
