Introduction
In northern Italy, the small town of Ome (population 3,200) lies in the Province of Brescia in Lombardy. Although it is not far from industrial areas to the east and west (Brembo and Beretta are globally-known nearby factories) it has preserved an old-town agricultural atmosphere. On the streets, people stop to say hello, are cheerful and well mannered.
Ome (average altitude 280 m.a.s.l.) sits in a triangular-shaped glacial valley bordered by the Prealps on the northern side, with glacial hills to the west and to the south. This is an agricultural area whose activities are devoted to grape cultivation and the production of the famous sparkling white wine from the Francia Corta terroir, and, on the south- facing terraced hills, olives are grown for the production of high-quality olive oil. Ome is not far from Lago d’Iseo in the lake district.
