Oak Open Day : Kew Gardens, 19 July 2010

Tony Kirkham, Head of the Arboretum and Horticultural Services at Kew, has agreed to the hosting of an Oak Open Day at Kew on July 19th.

Kew’s stature as one of the world’s leading botanical institutions will need little introduction to most IOS members, and their collection contains many UK ‘champion trees’, including oaks.

Costs and details for the day are yet to be finalised, but similar days have commenced at 10.00 hrs. to finish at around 16.30 hrs (although the garden remains open later for those able to spend more time). This year’s event may choose to concentrate on Kew’s collection of Mexican oaks as a consolation for those unable to attend last year’s Conference (and for a comparison for those who could attend!); and perhaps in addition their champion oaks. Members are also encouraged to bring specimens of unusual oaks or those which they wish to discuss.

If you are interested in attending this open day, please send an email to: shaun.haddock@orange.fr and you will be informed as soon as the details are confirmed. If numbers have to be limited, the date of receipt of your email will place you in an order of priority.

This event is open to non-IOS members and will certainly be a wonderful introduction to oaks and to the International Oak Society !
